Donating Sperm

What to Expect When Joining a Sperm Donor Program

Are you considering making a difference in someone’s life by becoming a sperm donor? It’s an altruistic choice that requires commitment and responsibility. Let’s delve deeper into what it entails to be a part of a sperm donor program.

Commitment and Process

Joining a donor sperm program isn’t a decision to be taken lightly. It’s a minimum 6-month commitment with a thorough application process. At Seattle Sperm Bank, we ensure that every potential donor goes through a comprehensive screening to uphold the highest standards of quality and safety.

Once accepted into the program, donors are expected to commit to at least 6 months of weekly donations. Our flexible lab hours allow donors to balance their donation schedule with other commitments. Additionally, regular STI testing and physicals every six months are mandatory to ensure the continued health and well-being of both donors and recipients.

Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle

The quality of donated sperm is crucial for successful treatments. Donors are encouraged to maintain a healthy lifestyle by consuming a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, avoiding nicotine products, and refraining from activities like using hot tubs, which can negatively impact sperm quality. We understand that certain factors like illness can affect sperm quality temporarily, which is why we conduct semen analysis on each donation to monitor any changes over time.

Health Reporting and Genetic Screening

Apart from physical health, donors are required to report any significant health changes, including genetic conditions that may be inherited by offspring. Our extensive genetic screening covers 515 conditions, providing valuable insights into donors’ genetic makeup and helping prospective parents make informed decisions about their family’s health.

Open ID Contact

One distinctive feature of our program is our commitment to Open ID donation. This means that donors agree to at least one form of communication with donor-conceived individuals once they reach adulthood. This initiative fosters a sense of connection and identity for donor-conceived individuals, acknowledging their curiosity about their genetic origins. We offer counseling to donors to ensure they understand the implications of this choice fully.

Benefits of Donation

Joining our donor program comes with multiple benefits. Apart from routine health checks and genetic screening, donors receive compensation for their time and effort, earning $100 per donation, up to three donations per week. More importantly, donors play a vital role in supporting families who rely on assisted reproductive technologies to start or expand their families. It’s a fulfilling journey knowing that your contribution can make someone’s dream of parenthood a reality.
