Why Be a Sperm Donor

Why Become A Sperm Donor

There are many great reasons to give back to your community in different ways. Becoming a tissue donor is a very personal way you can contribute to someone else’s life in a meaningful way. Sperm donation helps create different pathways for people to become parents and is at a great shortage worldwide.

Who relies on sperm donation?

The communities supported by sperm donations are LGBTQIA parents, mostly two-mom families. However, there are other LGBTQIA family structures that rely on sperm donation to become parents. Another large community that typically utilizes sperm donation is single mothers by choice. These are people who, for multiple reasons, choose to become solo parents. And last but not least, men who face infertility are left relying on sperm donation to become parents.

Sperm donations can be used in various treatment types where a partner in the relationship contributes eggs, an egg donor can contribute eggs, a partner can carry the pregnancy, or a surrogate can carry the pregnancy. In any case, sperm donation creates so many new pathways for people to become parents.

Benefits for donors

Choosing to become a donor is a worthwhile and selfless act. Being the person who makes a difference in someone’s life is an invaluable and powerful benefit. Alongside the overwhelmingly positive act of being a tissue donor, donors also receive other perks.

  • Compensation per donation. Every donation is eligible for up to $100 in compensation, depending on the quality. Most donations do qualify; during the application process, our team checks to make sure you would be a suitable donor. As long as you are actively donating and attending all health check appointments, donations are routinely compensated.
  • Flexible donation hours. Having flexible hours can be a big deal when you have other time commitments such as school and work life. Even scheduling donations around vacations and impromptu events is no problem. Walk-ins are welcome if you find you have free time during the day. Donations are welcome up to 3 times a week max, giving you the opportunity to earn $300 per week.
  • Health testing and genetic screening. Active donors are routinely tested and screened to ensure donated material isn’t infectious. Screening includes full physicals, STI testing, semen analyses, and genetic carrier screening. Genetic carrier screening is important to see what genetic conditions may be present and can be carried to any future offspring. This genetic test is a medical test different from commercial products you would see online and does not report findings to any database.

Most importantly, all testing and screening results are shared with you and can be used in your personal health appointments with your primary care provider.

Getting Started

After submitting an online application, your first step is to complete a semen analysis. You can either schedule this first visit or stop by the lab as a walk-in appointment. The next steps include meeting with our Donor Coordinator and taking your medical history, STI testing, genetic screening, and completing more information that will help build your donor profile.

We keep all of your identifiable information confidential, and all donated samples are discarded until you are fully accepted into the program.

During the application process, you have a chance to meet with our team and speak to our coordinators more about what it means to be a sperm donor.
